Roma Scouting

The project is running in Roma communities in Eastern Slovakia (specifically in Prešov and Košice regions). This geographical area is facing many socio-economic issues: high poverty and unemployment rates, low income households, high level of alcohol and drug abuse, high level of petit larcenies, bad hygienic conditions, early parenthood, a high number of teenage pregnancies, truancy, and low level of literacy of the citizens there. Relationships between the majority and the Roma minority are not good already for a long time; already at schools children often encounter the lack of understanding between these two communities. The goal of this project of Roma Scouting is to reflect on these circumstances and to create a flexible program focused on the decrease of negative influences of the environment on the Roma youngsters, to support mutual tolerance between minority and majority, especially on the creation of conditions supporting young Roma generation so that it can develop its potential and in such a way to facilitate their integration into the society.
