Objectives of the project/program: 

The aim of the school is not only to provide its students with knowledge and to get them ready for their future occupation but also to form their attitudes, to lead them towards respect for ethical and humanistic principles.
Volunteering of students complements the school profile – it is a benefit not only for students but also for the school itself. The chance to get involved into volunteering in social area helps to deepen and develop social and emotional competences of students. At the same time, the students also develop their professional competences and skills as the volunteering is carried out in the partner organizations where the students also have their vocational practice.
The volunteering program was established at the school because of the long-term cooperation of the school with the NGOs in the town Levice.

Description of project/program: 

Volunteering is supported by the school already for a long time. In the past, these were rather ad-hoc one-shot activities (e.g. money collections, conferences, etc.) Since 2011, the school started to organize regular activities according the needs of individual partner organizations.

Regular activities:

  • Regular visits (once in two weeks) and other activities with seniors living in the social care centre
  • Help with homework – this type of activity is implemented with children from socially marginalized communities (it is done in the cooperation with the civic association Place in the House in Levice); volunteers also organize various events for children there – International Children´s Day, summer activities, trips, etc.
  • Afternoon activities for people with disabilities – especially creative workshops, quizzes, and competitions for clients (in the cooperation with the civic association Island in Levice); volunteers are also helping with money collections, concerts, events, etc.
  • Activities for children in the Club for Foster Parents organized during the time when parents have their sessions; volunteers are also helping with the organization of summer camps, etc.

One-shot activities:

  • Help with money collections (An Hour for Children, Blue Button for UNICEF, weekend collections for other charity purposes, etc.)
  • Cleaning of interior and exterior of NGOs/social care centres
  • Work in the Information Centre for Youth (distribution of posters and leaflets, preparation of presentations, administrative tasks, etc.)
